Welcome to First Grade!

Are you visiting our blog because you will be in this class next year?

If so, WELCOME!!!

Please take some time to explore all of the pages, posts, and links on our blog. While you are looking around, be sure to sign up for email updates by filling in your e-mail address in the subscribe by e-mail rectangle located on the upper right-hand column. Our class blog will be the site for information about school supplies, special events, pictures, curriculum, assessments, and so much more. A school supply list will be posted on July 1. Later in the summer, I will provide information on the blog about the August open house. I will also be sharing stories of the fun that my sons (Hatter, Ollie, & Cas) and I have this summer.

And, don’t forget to stop in to OPEN LIBRARY this summer…the boys and I are hoping to swing by each week and it would be so fun to run in to some of our new first grade friends!

Also, remember to sign up for email updates on the Georgetown School Blog.  The school blog will provide updates all summer long about school wide events and important details about open houses and calendar dates.

Summer Activities!

First Grade Families,

Summer is in full swing!!  We have settled into our summer routine here at the Woodring household and I hope you have too!!!

If you are looking for some ideas to enhance your child’s summer fun, remember he or she has access to the following activities all summer long…

(Click on the highlighted links for more details about each activity!)

1. Raz-Kids – Continue to read books, listen to stories, and take comprehension quizzes even during the summer!  I have updated your child’s level so it matches the books that are just right for him or her.  Of course, when you have finished one level, you can move right up to the next one!

Our teacher username is: swoodring

2. Moby Max – This website offers a great way to practice skills taught during the school year.  Your child can take a placement test to find their just right level.  If you are unsure of your child’s login & password – just send me an e-mail.

3. Math Quilt Cards – Download and print these cards to practice math facts everyday!  Your second grade teacher will “thank you” for continuing this practice during the summer!!!

4. Summer Library – Our school library is open every Tuesday from 10:00 until 12:00.  Find some “just right”t books to read at home and chat with your past and future teachers too!

Keep up the great work reading at home for 20 minutes everyday – fill out those charts!!!

I’ll Miss You, First Graders!

Dear Parents,

(taken from pintrest!)

I give you back your child, the same child you confidently entrusted to my care last fall. I give him back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible, and more mature then he was then.

Although he would have attained his growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch his personality unfold day by day and marvel at this splendid miracle of development.

I give him back reluctantly, for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other, and we shall always retain a little of each other.

Ten years from now if we met on the street, your child and I, a light will shine to our eyes, a smile to our lips, and we shall feel the bond of understanding once more, this bond we feel today.

We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned, and enriched our lives together this year. I wish it could go on indefinitely, but give him back I must. Take care of him, for he is precious.

Remember that I shall always be interested in your child and his destiny, wherever he goes, whatever he does, whoever he becomes. His joys and sorrows I’ll be happy to share.

I shall always be his friend.
