Volunteers needed!

We are in need of parents who would be willing to cut out sight word cards or reading bookmark tools.  The work can be done at home and involves the cutting of cards and assembling these into ziplock baggies.

If you are interested, please contact me!

*We will have a few bags ready at OPEN HOUSE tomorrow to send home with anyone interested in helping! 🙂

See You Soon – Open House!

Wow!  The first day of school is sure sneaking up quick.  To help with the transition into a new school year, be sure to attend our Georgetown School Open House.  The event will take place on August 29 from 6:30-7:30.

At the Open House, each child will have a chance to meet me, explore our classroom, find their locker, and even pick out their seat for the first day of school.  It will be a great way to kick of the start of a new school year!!!  I can’t wait!!!  Until then, keep checking the blog for important information about first grade, summer fun updates, and a few more first grade memories.

And, if you haven’t done so already, please fill out our PARENT SURVEY!

A Growing Family!

I am excited to share with you that our family is growing through adoption!

Ira and I have both had many formative experiences in our lives that have led us to choose adoption as a part of our family plan.  It was something that we discussed before we were even married.  In fact, knowing that my desire to adopt was much stronger than my appreciation for jewelry, Ira took the money that he had saved for an engagement ring and opened up a savings account for our adoption fund as an engagement promise to me.

Ira and I have been blessed with an amazing son, Hatteras. Within months of his birth, we knew that we wanted more children and felt that we didn’t want to wait any longer before we started our adoption journey.  So, around Hatter’s first birthday, we started our adoption process and about ten months ago (Yes, Hatter is 4 1/2 now.  This has been a L.O.N.G. process!) we received news of a referral of a sweet baby boy in Korea who was in need of a forever family…and he was ours!

We have waited and waited and waited for everything to be ready for us to travel and that time is approaching (soon, hopefully)!  We are thrilled to be traveling to South Korea to meet our sweet Oliver Seung-Jo and bring him home with us.  If you are interested in following our journey, feel free to swing by our family blog: thewoodringfamily.net

While we’ve been busily preparing for the addition to our family at home, at school I have been working all summer to get the classroom ready to go for the school year.  I am planning on taking a few months of maternity leave when we return from Korea and then I will be back to school for the rest of the school year.

Mrs. Reagan and I have been working hard to find the perfect substitute for me while I am at home and we have secured the right person for the job. 🙂  My long term sub will be Mrs. Stutz.   Mrs. Stutz has worked at Georgetown for the past five years in different support roles.  I have had the blessing of working very closely with her before and she has spent a great deal of time in first grade as a one-to-one aide and a class size reduction parapro.  Her knowledge of the day-to-day happenings in our room and first grade will ensure that our daily routine, classroom expectations, and sense of community will be consistent throughout the start of our year.  Mrs. Stutz will be working her normal, super-woman support roles at Georgetown until we are notified that we can travel.  And once we receive that notice, she will be able to step right in.  Mrs. Stutz has her teaching degree in special education from Grand Valley State University and will do an absolutely fantastic job!  You may also know  Mrs. Stutz as the mother of her two most precious boys: Josh (10th grade HHS) and Tom (6th grade BMS), both previous Georgetown students (Tom was one of my sweet first graders, years ago).

Mrs. Stutz

Mrs. Stutz and I are looking forward to seeing you at Open House on August 29 at 6:30!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns that you have about this upcoming transition.

Thanks so much!
