Save the Date – Field Trip

I wanted to give you a head’s up about our upcoming class trip to John Ball Zoo.  The big day is  Wednesday, May 11.  We will leave in the morning for our visit, enjoy a picnic (sack lunch) in the park, and then be back to school in the afternoon.  All parents are welcome for this visit, the more the merrier!  Please mark this date on your calendar and we will send home more information after break!

Writing Celebration

Last week, we enjoyed our fifth writing celebration of the year.  Our most recent published work was inspired by Angela Johnson.  We studied her writing and tried many of her techniques in our stories – ellipses, again and again words, sound words, etc.

Below are some photos from our celebration.  We shared our pieces in small groups and wrote “book reviews” to add to the back cover of our stories.  And of course, we ended the celebration with a Hawaiian Punch toast!

Weekly Newsletter

Wow, a five day week of school?!  I almost forgot what that felt like.  We are loving the warmer weather and how that allows for us to get outside for our afternoon recess.  The kids have worked so hard this year and it is amazing to see how far they have come.  This past week, we finished up our fifth unit of math and our fifth unit of writing.  My, how time flies!

Please check out our March 18 Newsletter for a full update from the week AND check back for a picture update from our adorable writing celebration earlier in the week!

Book Fair

Our spring Scholastic Book Fair will take place this week March 14-18.  Our class will be visiting the Book Fair to PREVIEW BOOKS on Monday, March 14, and PURCHASE BOOKS on Wednesday, March 16, from 3:00-3:30pm.  After our preview on Monday, your child will bring home a wish list of their favorites.  If your child would like to purchase books, you can send their money (tax included) in an envelope to school by Wednesday.  Thanks!
