Take a deep breath…that was our last full week of the school year!  Your students are now just eight days away from being second graders!  Where did the time go?  Wow!  Thank you so much for being such wonderful parents, it has made our year a delightful one!  Your kids are amazing and have taught me so much.

To our wonderful and consistent WEB reading parent volunteers…THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I couldn’t have done it without you…trust me, I have tried…it doesn’t work.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your time spent at school reading with our first graders!

Next Friday, May 29, will be our last day of WEB reading.  Thank you for your commitment to our readers!

The kids are so excited for our trip to the DeGraaf Nature Center in Holland on Thursday morning.  Take the time to read the following letter, it will come home in your student’s blue folder tomorrow.  DeGraaf Nature Center Information

Here are directions (Feel free to follow the bus from school or meet us right at the nature center): Directions to DeGraaf

Key Things to Know!

  • Students need to come to school first! (Unless I have given you permission otherwise)
  • We will be back in time to have lunch at school, just pack lunch like a normal day or order hot lunch!
  • This trip is just for our First Graders, please keep other siblings at home.
  • Dress for the weather, we will spend a great deal of time outside!

I have something to say…

Many thanks to everyone who participated in this event!  Throughout the week, we had well over 1,000 family and friends tour the building to read our writing in books,  on lockers, and on the walls. In addition to writing tours, we hosted Shirley Neitzel, author of over 14 books for children. Our week ended with JUST WRITE SKITS–student writing performed by our Broadway bound staff! We have compiled a slide show that highlights all the activities of the past week. ENJOY…and remember this:

If you have something to say, JUST WRITE!

NOTE:  You can still purchase a copy of our  JUST WRITE story collections at our lulu storefront. You may also download a copy of for FREE.

There aren’t too many of these left in the year…wow!  We will be sending a letter home very soon about our field trip to DeGraaf Nature Center.  Mrs. Stadt’s Class and Room 104 will be going on the trip on the same day, Thursday, May 21.  We only have one bus able to take us to Holland, so if you are interested in joining us that day, you will need to meet us there.  All parents are welcome to join us, for a small fee.  It will be a morning trip and we will return to school in time for lunch.  Keep your eye out for the note coming home with more details very soon!

Just Write

We have our First Grade Celebration on Thursday.  This is a chance for family to come and celebrate with us as we honor the first graders and all the work they have put into writing this year.  Please come join us on Thursday, May 7 at 2:45.  We will start with a toast and walk through in the classroom.  Feel free to look through your child’s story as well as their classmates.  We will have compliment pages out for you to leave your praise.  Then you can take your student on a scavenger hunt around the school to admire the work of all the other Georgetown writers.
