If you want to see your students use some upper level thinking skills, bring home the book The Stranger (Chris Van Allsburg).  Read the book with them, ask some questions about the events of the story, and have them do the explaining.  They will amaze you at what they are picking up and the thinking that goes into understanding this book.  We will read other books by Chris Van Allsburg and put our thinking to the test, BUT don’t let me have all the fun…check out some of his books at www.chrisvanallsburg.com
